I’d like to introduce you to an up-and-coming Vancouver film-maker, Mac Harmon. He is 12-years old and has a few short videos under his belt already. He has done an anti-bullying video, one on homelessness, and the Vancouver riot.
You’re probably guessing he must be unusual. You’re right, he has giant-sized compassion, an even bigger heart and a great eye for composition as well as the innate ability to tell a good story.
In a few years, you can say, “Hey, I knew about him back in 2011!”
He put this short video together for Canada’s Remembrance Day..just one more reason to keep hoping and praying for peace in the world.
Wow, that was extremely moving; I still am welled up!
That young man is so talented! He definitely has a future in
filmmaking! It has a special significance to me as my dad was
overseas for almost five years, while my mom waited for him.
All through my childhood my father had such a hard time talking
about the war; it was much too painful for him to revisit the memories.
I am not sure the vets ever get over the trauma. They certainly deserve
to be honoured! even for future generations.
Laurie, I think you’re right that vets never get over the trauma. It must be so hard to re-enter civilian life after experiencing so much horror. And yes, Mac is so good at paying homage to whichever subject he chooses. It’s going to be interesting to see where his path leads him…
He definitely has the eye. Amazing.
Hey Sharon, his ability to tell a story in a few minutes is really something…especially considering his other films were done last year when he was eleven…as if twelve isn’t young enough 🙂
How can I not respond to THIS blog. Thanks Colleen for the support and kind words. Mac refers to you as, “Colleen, your friend who likes me, Mom”.
We are all honored that your blog spoke of our son and in doing so, honored the men and women we remember on this day.
Hey Karen, Mac’s right; I like him and I like that he’s using his talents to honour others. Of course, what else did we expect of a kid with such cool parents who ‘get’ it?
Thanks for sharing this Colleen. Bravo Mac, well done. I needed to take a minute to be reminded about the reason for this day, “lest we forget”.
