You know that old saying about Buddhism that goes sort of like this?

Before Enlightenment – Chop Wood, Carry Water. After Englightenment – Chop Wood, Carry Water.

I think they might have missed something…or maybe I did…I think perhaps that there really isn’t so much a ‘before’ or ‘ after’ but more like a constant ‘during’.

I’m pretty sure that if you decide you’re enlightened, that’s probably a darned good clue that you’re not.  I prefer people who admit more to a ‘during’ philosophy.

We just have to do our chores; and maybe in the midst of throwing some scratch to the chickens or stacking the firewood in anticipation of the fall and winter ahead, or watering the beets, that somewhere during those moments, there might be a little moment of ‘aha’. 

Then again, maybe not. But hey, either way, the chores get done.

Though I have to say that there’s nothing quite like an ‘aha’ miracle of pulling a still-warm egg from the little roosting box. I swear that alone is enough to have you drop to your knees.

Einstein said everything is a miracle. No kidding.
