I was walking with my lovely friend Karen Judd the other morning. She informed me that this was a holiday weekend coming up. But – true confession – neither of us could remember what the holiday was about.  I took a stab that it might be Victoria Day? And there you have it, my deep and profound connection to my Canadian holidays.

 

So. I did what anyone born in this current world would do…I did an internet search to learn a little bit about today’s birthday of Queen Victoria, the woman whose name graces our provincial capital.

I knew some stuff. I knew she was short (under 5 feet). I knew that the Victorian era was marked by a great expansion of the British Empire. I found out that she was the longest reigning monarch in British history, only now surpassed by Queen Elizabeth ll. There’s tons to know but here’s the piece that leaped out at me.

“According to one of her biographers, Giles St Aubyn, Victoria wrote an average of 2500 words a day during her adult life.”
