Write Everyday or Else…

I’m blaming the distractions of too many social events, too much company and whatever else I can’t think of right now. I have finished all my assignments (okay there’s still one small one but that’ll get done).

We’ve delivered our friends back to the ferry this morning, washed and put the bedding back on and will be driving down to get the next overnight guests in about an hour. So instead of working, it’s sort of been feeling like one big holiday. Combined with the snow outside, I feel like I’ve started the Christmas season a month early.

In an effort to get myself back on track, I spent a stupid amount of time searching on the net for organizational stories about creating the perfect writing office. After all, I did say that I would organize myself by the end of December so I’d be fresh to start my online course.

I found this NY Times article and inspiration has struck. It’s not that we have a space that looks anything like this, or that I’ll be hiring an interior decorator any time soon, or that any of it applies, but somehow it all does.

I think the real story of this makeover article is about honouring yourself and your writing (or whatever your interest might be) enough to carve out a beautiful space to do your creating.

This got me back on task. I am finishing my Travel Media Association of Canada submissions for the TMAC awards coming up in March. The photocopies and paper from that project have been scattered all over the floor.

Once that’s finished I’m going to start on a thorough cleansing of any and all extraneous material. The bulletin board mess is going to be the first to go.

And then, in just a few days we’ll be pulling a bunch of our furniture out of our house so that we can set up our Vancouver apartment. Once all that extra stuff is gone, I swear it will be postively Zen-like and spacious around here. 

I’m sure of it.  Inhale deeply with me, and on the exhalation, let’s all just breathe out, a big Om.
