The sun is winning the battle. Go Sun Go!
I am writing this in our sun-filled room in the gorgeous old Courthouse Inn located in the old Townsite of Powell River. This old courthouse/jailhouse was built in 1905 and now serves as a funky hotel/home away from home.
This is one of those hotels that I immediately start fantasizing about owning. The kind that movies are made of, with quirky characters, like maybe a Basil Fawlty or two.
There’s just enough old stuff to be quirky and cool and not too much to make it land in that sad state of too many dusty knick-knacks that some too-cute B&B’s fall prey to.
I’m feeling like I belong here, having already been properly snubbed by Billy, the resident cat. He clearly was not interested in having his photo taken. I love a cat that is not lured by the impossible promises of the paparazzi. Billy made his point with eloquent body language…he was having none of it.
Today, like yesterday’s ride up to Lund, was a 23-km cycle, but today had moments of glorious sunshine and somehow didn’t feel quite as exhausting.
Plus, we stopped just before the Powell Lake bridge and feasted at the Old Shingle Mill Pub. I don’t know if there was any conversation at all once the burgers arrived. Ray, Judy & Kevin stuffed themselves with seafood chowder and halibut burgers while I barely came up for air from my wild salmon burger and onion rings. It was a miracle we could get our belly’s over the top bar of our bikes for the ride into town.
Now I just need to find an afternoon coffee and life will be about as good as it gets.
