Why is it that when I start any trip it always feels like it will stretch, taffy-like, into a sweet never-ending infinity?
And yet. Here we are. At the end of our stay in Puerto Escondido.
What happened?
I’ll tell you what happened…a whole lot of infinity-reminding sweet nothing.
But I mean that in the best possible way.
I have never dozed so much during the day. The heat creates a wonderful lassitude, an inertia, a cat-on-a-warm-windowsill somnolence, that feels like the battery-pak was removed from my body.
Between that and the deep relaxation of the yoga classes with Sofia, the warm sand between my toes and the kick-ass margaritas Mr. Redl has made nearly every evening… not to mention the increasing stack of books by the chaise lounge…well, clearly it is a miracle that I can still put one foot in front of another.
Yet somehow too, we’ve walked barefoot miles on the shore while watching surfers flip and fly in the crashing surf. We have sweated and walked up and down the sharp hills to the mercado, consumed our respective body weights in fresh seafood, sucked back more lime juice than an entire scurvy-preventing ship of sailors and slurped up an unconscionable amount of avocadoes mashed into heavenly guacamole.
Thank you Michele Peterson. You have given us a slice of perfect Puerto time.
Tomorrow morning we fly to Baja California Sur. We will meet a woman named China at the Hotel California in Todos Santos. She will guide us to our new home.
We will start a new Mexican chapter.
Goodbye Puerto Escondido.
I want to go there. Can you hook me up? Seriously I am on the hunt for a place(s) that i can spend 1 – 2 months next winter where I can gaze at the ocean and drink Margaritas (is Kevin available? just kidding) and also be active Yoga etc. This sounds perfect!!
Susan. This is THE place. It’s a piece of tropical heaven.
I can definitely connect you with Michele. I’ll email you for your dates and see if it’s available.
