I never had an invisible friend.
I can’t remember when I first heard of the concept. Maybe it was in a movie? A book? But what I do recall was that the adults were intent on dissuading the child of the notion. I never understood that. What was wrong with an imaginary friend? It sounded fantastic and I remember being sad that I didn’t have one too.
My disappointment didn’t last long. Flesh-and-blood friends more than made up for the lack of an invented amiga.
Flash forward to Mexico…
Last fall, after my writing residency at Arquetopia in Oaxaca, I came down to Puerto Escondido to stay with Michele Peterson in her condo. Michele is the Puerto Escondido expert. I am not saying that lightly. Over the years, she and her husband Javier have visited here often and now own a gorgeous condo.
She is also the creator of the Puerto Escondido app which is testament to her incredible diligence and hard work in profiling almost everything and anything that is happening in Puerto. While I was staying here with Michele, I had no need of the app. I just followed along in her wake.
But now I’m here with Kevin. We’re staying in her condo until the end of the month and though I remember some of what she showed me, mostly we consult the Puerto Escondido app to help us decide where to eat, which beach to walk, how to find the market, the best ATM or the smoothest margarita.
It’s almost like having Michele right here with us. It’s almost like, oh my, dare I say it?
I think I have my first invisible friend.Â
Wow! Thanks for the mention of my blog posts. It is much appreciated… 🙂
Hola Alessandro. You are most welcome. Your Puerto photographs are beautiful and I’m very happy to include them.
Many thanks for the shout-out on the app! When creating it, I chose experiences I love and want to share with friends and family. So I’m super glad you’re enjoying the selections! But I’m getting feedback from some users that it’s a bit too girlie – lots on yoga, shopping, culture and beach but they want more on cantinas and strip clubs, tattoo parlours, gyms, barber shops and ATV rentals. Any volunteers willing to foray into the “macho” side of Puerto Escondido with me?
I asked mi esposo but Kevin said he’s not much of a macho guy. I think it just means he’s in touch with his feminine side 🙂
He plans on getting his hair cut but he’ll probably go to Jessica at Pura Vida like I just did. We love Jessica!
