How did this happen?
It’s our last day in Puerto Escondido at Michele’s gorgeous condo. This afternoon we fly to Mexico City and then hope to find the right bus station for our 5 or 6 hour ride to Patzcuaro.
Somewhere in between the taxis, plane and bus, I’m sure we’ll find an empananada or taco and two. And tomorrow we can make a pilgrimage stop to pay homage to Our Lady of Good Health or perhaps a more relevant Saint or six. These next few days are all about cemeteries, flowers, saints and art.
Yesterday was a pilgrimage of a different sort.
In fact, it’s one of my favourite kinds, the kind that involves most Superior Mother of All; Mama Nature.
The kind of pilgrimage that also includes a self-propelled activity and laughter. In other words, a kayak paddle on the nearby mangrove-lush Manialtepec Lagoon with a new friend, Katie Marti.
Gina, the goddess of all things concerning tourism in Puerto Escondido arranged the excursion. We were guests of Lalo Ecotours. Lalo drove us to the huge 8-km lagoon, home to 270 species of birds.
He loaded up two kayaks on his launch, zoomed us out towards the sunset & past two different fishing boats. Each one held a father and son silhouetted in the dusk.
We drove directly toward the sunset, launched the kayaks and paddled in the stillness with Lalo back in the now quiet, and drifting motor boat, and in full control of my camera.
Thank you Lalo. Thank you Gina.
It was a beautiful pilgrimage to prepare us for the journey ahead.
Beautiful photos, Colleen…
Thanks Lesley. Coming from the Queen of Composition & Photography, that means a lot 🙂
Harumph!
So Colleen, how does one go about booking Michele’s condo? I clicked on the AirBnB link you provided and got to her place’s page, but theres no way for me to tell which dated ARE available! Everything I tried said the dates were not available, no matter what I chose from December through May. Frustrating. And I could not contact Michele from that page without picking available dates first. Catch 22!!
Mandy, that is definitely a frustrating issue. I’ve run across that in AirBnB as well. I got around it by picking some random date, just to get through, but it’s silly that you can’t circumvent that date requirement.
Best would be to email Michele directly at: michelehpeterson@gmail.com Hope you can set something set up.
Thanks so much for coming to Puerto Escondido, Colleen! You’ve already made lots of friends and soul connections so I know you’ll be back.
I’m sad we’re leaving Puerto but excited to discover what lies ahead on the next stretch of our journey in Mexico.
Michele, now I know why you love it here. Great people, amazing food, and heat that has melted every last bit of stiffness out of my bones!
Thank YOU.
