Somehow Father Time did that elastic-band thing and stretched and morphed and we are no longer looking at lavender fields in France.
Instead, after spending hours in that suspended-animation/purgatory called airports, planes and time zones, we found ourselves in Canada instead. Voila, Vancouver!
I have no idea what my body should be doing. Is it yesterday, today or tomorrow? But it doesn’t matter because I’m only looking at right now, right here.
I simply remember my sacred mantra if anyone tries to trip me up by telling me what time it “really” is. Whilst firmly shoving each index finger in the appropriate ear canal, I loudly repeat,”La, la, la, la!”
It’s a mature and classy approach. I highly recommend it.
Good thing that I’m fully present and accounted for, because tomorrow I will be meeting seven women at the Vancouver train station @ 5:30 a.m. to begin the 24th annual Tour of the Stupids.
We will take the Amtrak train to Portland, hang out at the Ace Hotel for three nights while cycling and walking and eating our way around Portland before we start cycling north toward Tacoma and our subsequent train back to Vancouver.
I will not be blogging while I am away for this next week. We are cycling without a support vehicle and there is no room for a computer in my panniers. I’ll have my iPhone if I need to check messages (so feel free to comment!) but other than that…I’ve decided to take the name of my blog to heart and practise Traveling Light.
I’m trying to remember the last trip I went on without a computer.
I can’t.
It’s been a long time. That sounds like reason enough right there.
It’s summertime. Time to unhook a little, disconnect and travel light. I guess this is my version of Lent.
Anyone else letting go of anything for the summer?
Hi Colleen, I always have reverse culture shock – it’s hard to know what to do with yourself when you get back from a prolonged (and amazing) trip but I see you have solved that problem by immediately setting of on another one. Viva ‘la la la!’
Hey Carol. Glad you like my strategy. It’s fairly effective…though I never know where I am when I wake up:)
Fantastic, what a life you have!
It is wonderful to hear your stories and live vicariously through you!
France looks beautiful, definitely on my bucket list!
This has been a busy summer so far, as my partner and I bought
a house together and we have been renovating and gardening.
I have really enjoyed it though, and look forward to the weather
warming up to swim in the ocean and do some kayaking.
Have a great bike trip, sounds like fun! It will be a true holiday
for you to leave your computer at home!
Laurie, the new house and garden sounds exciting. That’s so much fun. I love doing projects like that.
We’re in Portland right now, staying at the very funky Ace Hotel. Highly recommend this place! What a great vibe.
And yes, when I get back to Sechelt, I’ll be looking forward to some kayaking and canoeing too. Enjoy that ocean!
