I have come a long, long way from Palm Springs.
Just took this quick snap using the Hipstamatic setting on my iPhone. A little blurry, but then, what do you expect with all that rain out there?
But here’s the thing…it’s SO beautiful.
Everything is blurry, smeared like inky words on a sad letter, where the words dip and swoon from the tears that have dripped on to the page. It’s not just Paris that is beautiful in the rain…
It’s here. Right now in this grey and glass city with the punches of colour from the flaming leaves that refuse to let go of those skeletal branches. Where little kids in purple boots seek out the puddles and stomp purposefully into the middle and deepest part of the wet. Where bunches of umbrellas mushroom at crosswalks, like bit actors lining up for their try-out as Mary Poppins.
I walked out of the apartment a little bit blue…just the tiniest edge of blue clouding around my view on the world. Is there any logical reason for this? Nope. All I can think of is that I might have an emotional hangover. I’ve had so many great things happening lately, that I’ve felt drunk with all that has been given to me.
But that’s too weird a theory…even for me.
It doesn’t matter what was going on, because I returned completely inspired by the views outside and the little bit of foot-stomping exercise. Life is good. It’s even better after a walk and fresh air.
Happy Monday everyone. Get outside!
Very poetic!!! A little Vitamin D might help! LOL
hey Laurie…Vitamin D is key to getting through a Vancouver winter!
Getting outside is great medicine, ain’t it? I took Cougie for a walk through the Sechelt Heritage Forest and it was like a cathedral… soft paths, mosses everywhere, light combing through the firs and dappling the last of the fall leaves. I hated to leave!
I loved the description about the flaming leaves, the purple boots, the mushrooming umbrellas – cause, hey, you know how crazy I am about shrooming. Look forward to your posts every day.
Laurie, it’s so true that the forests are cathedral-like. It’s a study in greens and glowing light. There is nothing better for the soul than being in the arms of Mama Nature 🙂 Thanks for reading each day. It makes it more fun to write, knowing you’re out there!
I like the photo, too. Very artistic. I find it difficult this time of year to maintain good spirits. Valdez tends to be either socked in with low clouds and snow, or bright and sunny with bitter winds howling through. Too much indoor time drags on my spirit, and somehow setting my bike up on an indoor trainer just doesn’t relieve my gloom.
Hey Sharry….Indoor bike riding is depressing because we don’t actually get anywhere! It’s like a hamster in a cage…very sad.
I think the key is to get outside – no matter what the weather – just get out there and look at the leaves, or the ice or a cloud. The trick is to find inspiration in the details. You’re an artist. You know what I mean 🙂
I really believe that when we’ve exercised and the oxygen is throwing little champagne bubbles in our veins, we are bound to feel better than if we stay inside breathing indoor dead air. If all else fails…go south!
Sometimes it’s nice to revel in those little moments of blue -they go so well with a rainy day 🙂
I love the photo..it’s very romantic.
It’s true Becca…without a few shadows, how would we ever recognize the light? I like that photo too. Very 70s in the colouring 🙂
