It happened while I was in the ashram (the irony of which is not lost on me).
I received an email from Palm Springs Tourism asking if I’d like to come down to the desert for a few days in November. She said she realized I’d just be back from two months away and it might not work…Ha!
I wrote her back before she had a chance to change her mind. “Well,” I replied, “I’ll have to check my schedule. Oh there. I just did. Yes, I can make it.” I thought that helped me not sound too overeager. Remarkable restraint non?
I’m guessing she has no idea just how gloomy it can be in the middle of a Vancouver November. And just how much down time does she think a girl needs?
Besides, I knew that Viola Ann and her husband Dave would be down there for the month of November, along with our other good friends Ray & Judy Gerein.
Today I received my WestJet flight confirmation; Nov 15-18…a short respite from the unrelenting rain that is bound to be drizzling down my neck by then.
Unfortunately, it won’t be enough time to hang out with my friends, but enough time to enjoy the cacti, sand and brighter skies…and I found out that Trish Friesen from Trip Styler will be on the same trip. I’ve met her a couple of times and know we’re going to have fun. Besides, with a last name of Friesen, what’s not to like?
I’m guessing that my Indian outfits might not be apropos on the main drag of Palm Springs. Might have to pack something different for this trip. Hell, I might even do my nails in honour of the occasion.
Me too, I am around the Coast and free as a bird…it is a wonderful feeling. Let me know when it works for you…
Welcome Home Colleen. Lots to talk about on our, which by now seems like a, ‘phantom’ walk. I, and my Bambi too, may possibly be in Palm Springs area late November which would probably allow me an even better chance of connecting (tho’ not in a Zen way) with you.. I am usually quite concrete….My experience in India many many years ago was definitely not like yours…would love to compare….Glad you’re safe and hope we can connect whenever you are ready and re-acclimatized–where’s my spell check here?–to this culture…In the meantime GO CANUCKS….:) Judy
When we finally do this ‘walk’ of ours, it will be a rather epic achievement. I’ll be scoping out some cool spots in Palm Springs and blogging away about it…are you surprised? I look forward to our walk and India talk 🙂
It’s so great to have you home on the Coast. Loved all the India posts, and you should have a good bank of sun and heat to take you a couple of months. This fall has been therapeutic for weather and I hope it keeps holding out! Maybe we will defy the odds for a long, sunny descent into winter… if it just lasts to Dec 21, we’re on the upswing for longer days and maybe there will be some snow around for additional light therapy!
Hey Laurie…I’m getting closer to the coast each day…I’m still in Vancouver but plans are afoot for Coastal time 🙂 I see some snowshoeing in our near future. And yes, the weather is utterly spectacular. It’s a lovely transition from the heat of India.”We may never see rain again,” (she said delusionally and in utter denial of the fact that she lives on the Wet Coast…).
What posh place will be putting you up in Palm Springs? We stayed at the Holiday Inn, which was quite nice, but it’s a bit removed from the tourist strip. We’ll probably stay again in Jan or Feb on our way to Az.
Hey Martha…I’ll be staying at two very cool properties. They look very Dean Martin-ish 🙂 I’ll be writing about them once I’m there (mostly cuz I can’t recall the names of them right now!)
