You just never know where you’re going to end up.
I’m not talking in the existential sense here, but more of the, “Well hello, how’d I end up stumbling into the W2 Media Cafe? And how did I become a tester for some of their fresh baked cookies?
I don’t know really why I’m here (you see how this could mistaken for be an existential angst) except that I have a few hours before we catch the ferry back to Sechelt and I am always looking for new WiFi places in Vancouver.
There is always the Bell Hot-Spot WiFi at the soul-sucking blandness of Starbucks. I realize that might sound a little harsh, and in my defense I am known to frequent Starbucks, but though the W2 Media Cafe won’t have its official opening until September 21st, it already feels like it has a helluva lot more soul…than again, I could just be a sucker for free cookies.
The Cafe is on the main floor of the Woodwards complex and upstairs they have a wonderful community space where there will be lockable desks for rent, as well as public meeting rooms & the old Woodwards printing press and all those wonderful piles of type. There will be two radio stations and a TV station opening in the basement of this space.
They will be employing and mentoring Downtown Eastside Residents which makes me very very happy. There are so many projects in the works, that it is actually a tad mind-boggling.
I have a suspicious feeling that I will be getting involved in this in some way or another…and here I thought I was just looking for some WiFi.
