I’m writing this on July 30th while sitting on my sofa in Sechelt because I’ll probably be somewhere in a rainstorm in the Rockies when you’re reading this (the extended weather forecast doesn’t look particularly stellar and besides,if I recall correctly, there’s no WiFi out in them thar hills), so I thought it best to write this from the WiFi’d warmth of my living room.

Then again, it might turn out to be a wonderful day with incredible new cyber connections. Who can predict these things?

As Doris Day so famously said, “Que sera sera.”  She was right. Whatever will be, will be.

Apparently situations will be what they are and all we can do anything about is our reactions. So I’m making this promise now.  If it’s raining on our Rocky Mountain parade? I promise to laugh. Hopefully, not a maniacal crazy-lady laugh (I’ve been known to go there), but more of a Ha!-Look-at-what-we’ve-willingly-gotten-ourselves-into-now-kind-of-laugh.

Because here’s what I know after twenty-three years of some fairly stupid bike trips…you can pretty much get through anything if you swear enough and laugh enough. I’m serious about the swearing. Apparently swearing helps us endure pain and though I’ve been known to sound like a trucker, I do prefer laughing. It’s a little more inclusive.

And if I start thinking the situation is worse than I wanted? I repeat my go-to phrase that has so far got me through more pickley situations than I care to think about. It’s a tried-and-true saying that has stood the test of time. That is, “This too shall pass.”

Works like a charm.
