“It seems pretty flat around here,” I said this with what I thought was profound understatement. Judah Imhof, whose monogrammed Bianchi bicycle shirt reads, Eduardo, has his answer.”We’re at the highest point right here at Big Daddy’s Bike Rental. We’re at 42 feet.”
I didn’t think it was the right time to talk about my recent cycling journey through the Canadian Rockies.
It seems Judah aka Eduardo was issued the Bianchi shirt in commemoration of Bianchi’s celebration of 120 years in business. That was five years ago. And, I find out, Eduardo is the first name of the Bianchi founder. Hence the ‘wrong’ name for Mr. Judah.
But there’s nothing else wrong at Big Daddy’s. I found out from Judah that it was started 13 years ago by Peggy Sheehan as a little rental outfit. It’s evolved into a huge fleet of every kind of rental bike, a full-service bike repair, bike sales and kayak rentals. I’d suggest that Peggy has it all covered.
He wasn’t surprised when I told him that everyone I stopped to ask where they’d rented their bike told me Big Daddy’s.
In mere minutes, I am riding my three-speed cruiser. Fat seat, swooped up bar with a grip shift, and brakes that work like they used to back in the day when I used to ride my green mustang with the sparkly banana seat, the glitter streamers from the angel bars and little clicking plastic beads on the spokes.
I am flashed back to being ten years old. No small feat when you’re fifty.
I instantly owned this stretch of 30A.
As Mastercard would say…Priceless.
