The day started with a young eagle outside our upstairs window. I looked up from writing in my journal and there he sat…just above eye level in a branch of the hemlock directly in front of me. It is amazing how long one can sit and be mesmerized by something so large and wild. I wanted to film him and walked out onto the deck with my stupid old camera.. but the batteries died (!) on my camera. ARGH.
In one way this was a good thing…I was no longer trying to view the experience with a camera in the middle. Instead, it was just air that separated this beautiful creature and me.
He turned around from where he was gazing over the ocean and stared directly at me, which is when I tried to remember if anyone had ever been attacked by an eagle, because the beak on that guy looked like it wouldn’t take much to tear my head off.
Meanwhile, the fully white-headed adult parent was swooping at the shoreline with the crazy crows and gulls charging at him as if they had a chance. It was barely after 6:30 a.m. and already the full Darwinian action of survival of the fitblog was at play.
I’m so glad we got past the caveman days. I really like not having to twirl my head around and wonder if something’s going to swoop down and kill me.
There is something to be said for the safety of civilization; which brings me to the internet.
And then it’s really not too much of a leap to mention my interview with Maralyn Hill at SuccessWithWriting.com.
And you wondered how eagles and interviews could be related?
Without further adieu, I bring you this link.
