Kevin & I left Wilson Creek this past Monday and cycled through the slog and slop and mud. It seems bizarre to have to wear a fleece toque under my helmet at the end of May, but in spite 68 kilometres of heartbreaking hills, we pulled into the lovely West Coast Wilderness Lodge and our Egmont retreat for the afternoon and evening,
Of course, the first thing we saw out the dining room windows from its’ bluff perch over the Skookumchuck Narrows, was a pod of Pacific White-Sided Dolphins.
We wouldn’t see the Orcas until the next morning…
Thankfully, our little cottage room wasn’t far from that dining room. It was easier to not get completely soaked that way. We decided to build up our beaten muscles with a shared starter of lobster ravioli smothered in a roasted red pepper sauce and then Kevin had the freshly caught halibut while I stuffed myself with a spot prawn stirfry. It seemed only right to wash it all down with a lovely Okanagon Chardonnay…See Ya Later from the Naramata ridge.
And then we slept like the dead. Except for the middle-of-the-night monsoon where I thought for sure the world was ending. How could there still be that much water in those skies? It just didn’t seem possible…but there it was.
Tomorrow would be a different adventure. It was just so nice to be safe and dry in our little perch above those wild waters below.
