Kayaking Johnstone Strait

This is one of the reasons I believe I have a pretty good life. Talk about location, location, location. It was a bit of a dodgy process climbing up the short trail in the dark, but other than that, it was pretty spectacular.

Kevin & I paddled with Pat & Nell from Washington, Cathy & Allan from South Carolina, John from Alberta and our two Sea Kayak Adventure BC guides, Cara & Dan. We started in the drifting fog of Telegraph Cove and paddled into the blazing sun a few hours later.

I think I woke up with a grin, and went to bed with one, for pretty much the whole week. We saw stupid amounts of eagles everywhere we turned. Orcas became sort of a yawn after awhile. Our running joke to Cara & Dan was, “Hey, it’s been almost an hour since we saw any whales.”

Humpbacks once…or was it twice? Dolls Porpoises were cluttering up the water and everywhere, everywhere there were herring being squirted out of an invisible ocean-sized pea-shooter and salmon flipping and slipping and slapping out of the water.

We fell asleep to the whooshing and puffing of whale-sized breathing, hidden in the fog that sat thick and shaggy offshore.

Did I mention the whole trip was sort of magic?

If you decide to go, travel with these guys…
