It’s a grey November day here in Vancouver, but it’s summertime in New Zealand...

I don’t know where you live or what your weather is like, but the odds are it’s not quite as nice as summer in New Zealand.

I’m here to help with that.

You can win a two-week trip (for you and your ever-so-grateful-best traveling companion) but there’s a slight catch. You have to write what you’d be willing to give up in order to win (you know everything comes with a price, right?)

Tourism New Zealand is sponsoring a series of contests to promote their piece of Down Under Wonder, and this one is named after something rather dear to my heart, Stories Beat Stuff.

Here’s the scoop…Head over to their site and write (no less than 300 words!) about something material that you’d be willing to give up in exchange for the chance to go on one of the first two trips; Summer Rhythm or Rhythm and Vines. I think I’d pick the Rhythm and Vines trip, but that’s because I’d be traveling with my oenophile husband and his huge appreciation for all things grape-ish.

Warm up your fingers, sharpen your pencil, pull out your crayons and write about what you would be willing to give up.

Maybe your favourite vice? Your blankie that no one knows you still keep in that bedside drawer?  A kidney (you know I’m kidding here right??) Your collection of travel destination shot glasses? Your inherited collection of purple-parrot salt-and-pepper shakers from your Great-Aunt Edie? It’s your call because it’s your story.

The point is to write about something that reveals who you are and tells a great story…because if you’re entering a contest that’s called, Stories Beats Stuff, well…it’s obvious isn’t it?

I love a contest that is all about creating new memories instead of having more things. Bring it on!

Meanwhile, I’ve been thinking about what I’d be willing to give up for a two-week trip to Kiwi World…but I’m not telling.

I don’t want anyone stealing my idea!
